Why We Built Family Journal
"June Morrison set her coffee cup on the side tableβtwo sugars, splash of cream, same as alwaysβand opened her tablet. At eighty-seven, she had learned that mornings were for remembering, and her family had given her a new way to do it."
This is how our story begins. Not with technology or features, but with a real family discovering they were losing something irreplaceableβand finding a way to save it before it was too late.
A 5-minute read about four generations, one marble rolling pin, and why every family needs their story preserved

Built with Love, For Families Like Ours

A Son's Mission
Why I Built Family Journal
βWhen our Mom started forgetting our family stories, I watched helplessly as decades of wisdom and memories started slipping away. Not just from her, but from all of us.β
I tried everything: voice memos she couldn't navigate, social media that felt too public, scattered photos that told incomplete stories. Worse, I realized that I was forgetting these moments myself. We all were.
So I built Family Journal. Not as a tech entrepreneur, but as a son who refused to let our family story fade. Every feature comes from a real need: the daily format because βwhat happened todayβ is easier than βtell me about your life.β Private reflections because families need space to coordinate care with dignity.

See how families are using Family Journal to capture their loved ones' stories before it's too late
βAfter Mom's memory started to decline, we were losing her stories daily. Now everyone contributes new memories and old memories from our visits. It's become our most treasured family project.β
βDad loves seeing the photos from family gatherings. He can't always remember the details, but the journal helps him feel connected to all of us.β
βThe private reflections feature is wonderful. We can coordinate Dad's care and share his daily progress even when we aren't all together. It's brought our busy family even closer.β

Common Questions
Quick answers to help you get started
Family Journal is completely private. Only your invited family members can see your content. There are no ads, no data mining, and no public sharing. It's designed for elderly users with simple interfaces and care coordination features that social media doesn't offer.
StoryWorth and similar services focus on capturing life stories through weekly prompts, culminating in a single book. Family Journal is differentβit's an ongoing, daily collaborative journal where family members contribute to current memories and events. While StoryWorth preserves the past, Family Journal strengthens present family connections and creates a living record of daily life that everyone can participate in.
That's exactly why we built the 'Viewer' role. Your loved one gets a simplified, read-only interface with large text and photos. They can access it through email links without remembering passwords. Many families also set up an iPad that stays open to the journal.
Yes. Family Journal helps in multiple ways: it provides a daily routine, helps trigger memories through photos and stories, and lets families coordinate care privately. The simple, consistent interface reduces confusion and provides familiar structure.
Private reflections are notes only family members (not Viewers) can see. They're perfect for family updates, personal observations, or sensitive topics you want to keep within the family. They appear in a different color so you always know what's private.
Your data is always yours. You can export everything (all entries, photos, and reflections) at any time. We provide it in standard formats you can open and save anywhere. If you decide to leave, you take everything with you.
